Hi, does anyone know how cash on delivery works with Pos Malaysia?
Is it like this - I send parcel, customer gets it and pays (how?) and then pos malaysia gives me a money order (how?) and I take the money order to redeem cash from a post office?
Also, how long does it take them to send parcels within Malaysia? Should I use PosExpress instead?
1. You send the parcel COD. You have to tell the postal clerk who will give you a form to fill out. 2. Package arrives, customer pays the postman. 3. Pos Malaysia will issue you with a money order you have to claim at the Post Office.
The whole thing is bothersome in the extreme, as many things can go wrong, and the whole process takes too long. For example, the customer may not be around when the postie is making his rounds, the goods may be returned, typo error on the money order et cetera. On top of that, Pos Malaysia takes a commission.
It can take anything from 1 day to 10 days, depending on location, registered/ normal, peak/off peak time, for a parcel to arrive in Malaysia. I have posted a letter each to Johor Bahru and Subang on the same day, the one to Johor actually arrived faster by a day. And I posted the letters in PJ.
Pos Ekspress is a bit more expensive, and the items you can send is limited by the size of the Pos Ekspress envelope or box. You decide. Personally, I prefer not to use it, as it does not offer compensation unlike registered mail. The only thing you get if any mail is lost or undelivered is a free envelope.
Hi, thank you so much - the info you gave was very helpful! Just to clear a few things...
How does Pos Malaysia pass on the money order to me? Do they mail it over to my address?
Then when I take the money order to the post office, will they pay me in cash or cheque?
Do I pay them RM2 commission when I bring the money order to redeem the money?
Roughly how much does it cost altogether to send a parcel COD for goods weighing less than 1kg? Including parcel fees, COD commission, money order commission etc.
They will send it to you and pay you in cash. Can't remember when do you pay the commission; the last time I did COD was so very long ago. I don't bother with COD anymore because it is such a hassle for the buyer and myself the seller.
The total amount charged to you would depend on the weight of the parcel (less than RM3.50 for parcels less than a kilo) and the amount you charged the buyer. Last time I checked, you can also COD Singapore and Brunei.
Hi hmscoventry2, based on what you said, I think I'll use money order together with an insured parcel. I would probably have gone with the uninsured pos express or the troublesome COD method if it weren't for you. Thanks for clearing up so many of my doubts about COD!
Hi guys, I'm kind of a newbie here. Can you please teach me how to send items from KL to Sarawak using registered mail and money order? How does it work? When does my buyer from Sarawak pay?
